Iā€™m at the end of the game, and I have over $70k. I feel Riptide is a lot more lenient with item drops, specifically ammo and money. The original Dead Island, especially at the end in the prison area, I was constantly scrounging for any small amount of money to finish the game.
Steps to take: Have a weapon in your inventory that you want to duplicate. Equipped the weapon and hold the right trigger, then press the left trigger to throw the weapon. When the weapon is in mid air press the back button to go into your inventory. Now unequipped the weapon you through.

John also does pretty good with guns since he is military trained. He can use anything, but you won't be able to use his uppercut move (if you assign that to him) if you don't have a hand to hand weapon equipped. My normal load out is something like this, claw, brass knuckles, molotov, grenade, best gun, cutting weapon, blunt weapon, and chainsaw.
